Education and public awareness are a priority for the SWCD. The District provides the leadership to increase awareness and appreciation for Norman County’s natural resources.
In the Classroom
The SWCD provides classroom presentations to students ranging from kindergarten through high school. Presentation topics include soils, trees, water quality, wetlands and a variety of other conservation topics. Pictured above are students from Ada-Borup that decorated their flower pot that was given to them from our office.
Outdoor Education
Outdoor education provides quality education to students with hands-on learning stations. An Envirothon is sponsored for students 9th-12th every year. A 4th grade Water Festival held every year also provides water quality learning topics.
Adult Education
A display booth is set up at the Norman County Crop, Seed and Trade Show, and the Norman County Fair. Presentations on conservation topics are given at local functions when requested.
Aquative Invasive Species (AIS)
Our office is in charge of the AIS Program for Norman County. We will be educating folks and students on the prevention of AIS through newspaper articles, brochures, radio, local events and presentations.
